The Centrist Case for Elizabeth Warren
Well, that was some debate, wasn’t it? Elizabeth Warren was absolutely not kidding around and I, for one, am here for it. In fact, as contradictory as it may seem, I have become quite convinced that Warren may just be the centrist candidate that we’ve been looking for.
In the aftermath of New Hampshire, I watched as many of my friends, of various persuasions, lamented the fact that Warren was rapidly being eclipsed, unable to gain a substantial following (or at least media coverage) from either the left or the center. On her left, she has always been overshadowed by Bernie Sanders, and on the center she has to compete with Klobuchar, Biden, Mayor Pete and, now (in name at least) Mike Bloomberg.
Going into last night’s debate, knowing that she had one chance to do or die, Warren decided that she was going to do, and she took all of her fellow candidates to task at one point or another during the course of the evening. While Bloomberg was the most obvious object of her (well-deserved) ire, she also took Klobuchar to task for the sparseness of her healthcare plan, Bernie (slightly) for the toxicity of some aspects of his fandom, and Buttigeig for his coziness with billionaires (while I don’t share her disdain of billionaires, I’m aware it plays well to the base).
